Summer is a great time for students to catch up on some pleasure reading. The school year is often filled with textbooks and articles required by teachers, so having a choice in which books to read can be a welcome relief.
I encourage students to read whatever they like- JUST READ! If you have a high school student looking for some books to read this summer, check out Good Reads' list of the 101 Great Books Recommended for College Bound Students. Originally produced by the College Board, this list is filled with well-known literary classics, as well as some lesser-known treasures. You may even consider choosing a book as a family to read together and then going to see the movie. The Great Gatsby, Les Misérables and The Three Musketeers are all on the list.
It's not too late for adults to catch up on some missed classics either. Maybe this will be my summer to finally tackle War and Peace- all 1,456 pages of it!
Happy summer reading!
